What is Popular Culture?

Popular culture is what is currently popular in a certain society. For the U.S., pop culture is heavily influenced by the media in the form of music, sports, entertainment, etc. It is what society as a whole conforms to being accepted. Popular culture to me is what is accepted as a majority of people to be the new and “popular” thing to do. For me popular culture has had a huge impact on my life. I am heavily involved into sports and music. Sports in pop culture are now about watching your favorite teams in their respective sports on TV. or even at the stadium. With such channels as ESPN and FOX Sports, sports are always on the TV. Now the new popular thing in sports is fantasy sports. This is when you draft players based on their stats. They have this for Football, Baseball, Hockey, Basketball, Golf, and NASCAR. I am heavily involved in the fantasy sports world.

Blink 182-What's My Age Again

I consider the music video “What’s My Age Again?” by Blink 182, to be a pop culture artifact. I feel this because it started a new era in pop culture. It brought the new music style of pop-punk to the forefront of American music. The video depicts the band members nude and running through a town and playing music as well. This is what the band was all about. They were all about having fun and being yourself and doing what you want. This video was so popular that it immediately brought Blink 182 to the forefront of pop culture. It was this video that launched their career and with that punk music became pop-punk.
